Making the move

I have a 09 Range Rover Sport and today might be the day that it changed to an 09 E70. Originally, when I got my E90, my wife and were torn between the two. We got the Range. One year later, I'm not so much in love with it. After some serious debate, we might be making the move to the X5.

If we make the move, I'll post pics (more so I can do the whole before and after mod comparisons). Wish me luck.

Good Luck. I had a 2006 Supercharged RR Sport. I hated it! About 3 months of ownership...and I spent more time in a dealer provided Saturn or Volvo loaner! My 2008 full size Range Rover was much better, but still a disappointment!

Good Luck! The E70, IMO, is the best looking SUV on the road!

Wow, interesting. I looked at the new 500 hp RR sports, and they really look nice, the fit and finish inside seems better than BMW. I also like how they seem to be better suited for off roading. I know the 500 hp is negated by the heaviness of the vehicle, and the gas mileage was horrible. It's not any faster than the 400hp X5...

What pulled me away was the lease rates are horrible, so we simply couldn't afford one...

Yeah, we got ours before the facelift. But, it's the little things that still get under my skin. The maintenance schedule is more frequent than that of BMW's and way more out of pocket costs.

I actually like the exterior of the RR a little better, but for the kind of money that was going to be put down I wanted a better record of service. Plus, I don't think the RR has a power plant that can compete with the 35d right now.

I think the LRX looks worth waiting for, but the 2 doors and a 5 month old (at the time) would have been a deal breaker even if it were available at the time.

Turbo Diesel in the LRX is a nice little package though... but the exterior wasn't near enough for the RR to beat out the X5 for my purchase.

and I LOVE my 35d (6 months now)

I was in the same boat. Drove the new 500hp RR sport SC and even had the dealer locate one for me. My concerns were that they dropped the free maintenance that used to be standard and I actually felt cramped in it! I'm exactly 6' tall and even with the front seat all the way back, I felt that I couldn't stretch my legs out properly and the pedals were too close to me...not happening for $78k sticker price! I don't know how the football players and basketball players tolerate it, as I'm not that tall.

That being said, the new interior on the RR sport SC with the alcantara inserts and piano black accents is absolutely amazing. While I like my interior on the BMW with the extended leather dash, etc, it still doesn't compare to the interior on the rover with the accent stitching and overall quality in the '10 and newer models.

Yeah I want to like sport rovers but they aren't easy to love! Too small inside....too unreliable...no pano roof...which has become a deal breaker for me. Three strikes....your out

RR Sport sure looks great. The interior is very nice and (along with the new Cayenne's interior) make the X5 look quite spartan. Having said that, I think the BMW tech, ride, and performance are superior. Reliability has also been disastrous for the Range Rovers. I just don't trust them. Several friends have had nightmare stories including electrical problems, mechanical problems, and even leaks.

The original deal breaker came last month when my family and I took a drive to Charlotte (about 4hours from Knoxville). Stopped to get gas when we got there. When I got back in the car, none of my dash components were functioning. My Nav screen didn't even light up and my radio showed the clock, but that was it.

I immediately took"Big Baby" to the nearest dealer and was told that after she cooled down, everything woul be normal and that RR was looking into these problems (it had been reported a few times apparently). By the time I got back in the car, eveything was fine.

The dealer was pretty helpful in explaining the reporting process, but a problem with the "brain" of my vehicle with less than 10K has kind of scared my wife off of it.
