Those of you with the new 50i ... any updates on how you like it?

I am seriously contemplating trading in my 06 M3 for the new 50i X5 (with the 20's). I need something I can easily drive all year round, and looking for a change.

Any thoughts on how you like yours so far? I searched and haven't found any recent updates. I haven't been able to find many pics either and no dealers around here have 50i with the 20's to take a look at and drive.

Any input would be greatly appreciated (oh and pics too)!

Its awesome !! The power is really there, and the 8 Speed Tranny is really smooth. Much better than the 4.8.

My Pics are on this thread.

I've had numerous BMW's, most recently a 335i and a 535i. Having owned an 05 4.4i, I can tell you that the 50i is by far the best BMW I've ever owned! First, the looks are menacing, expecially with the M Sport Package. Second, the performance has always been there, but now its more enjoyable to drive than either of my turbos. Yes, the MPG is a little bit less, but the ratings are dead on. I recently drove up to the Northeast and at 75-80 mph, I averaged on my best tank of gas 20.2 mpg. City driving will stick around 15.2+/- with a mix of around 17.0. I am still curious to see what the true 0-60 times are for this vehicle, as the only data out there is BMW's always conservative 5.3 seconds.

I think the M Sport looks sharp, too, but you will have to Clearbra basically where ever you see the lower black rubber trim/moldings on a non M-Sport---there's a reason why they have the rubber there it's because they are prone to debris, etc. And the wheel arches--I can easily see someone opening a door and chipping those.

Personally I like the contrast of the non/M version.. And I agree on the reason why the rubber is "usually" there..

Same here. My 50i came with the 20" rims but I think I like the style 215's better. The vehicle accelerates very smoothly with lots of low end torque. So far I only have about 250 miles on it so can't wait to reach the break-in mileage.

Steve,

I love it. It is smooth, very quick, solid, quiet, but with a great exhaust note. I have had 5 SUVs in a row and by far this is the best. I had an Audi Q7, Merc ML320, Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, Infiniti QX56, and Yukon Denali, and of course none of them compare, and they were not cheap cars either, except the Jeep of course.

You mean 214's ?

As some have mentioned, from a cosmetic standpoint, the pre-facelift looks more rugged and truck-like and the LCI looks more pedestrian. But from a performance standpoint the new engines are much better performing. I keep my cars at least 8-9 years so I am a little concerned with the durability/reliability of the TT since it really hasn't had been put to the test that long.

No I meant the 215's. See link http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...15-wheels.html

You won't be disappointed in the 50. Huge step up in performance from my old '01 4.4 X5, and much easier to live with as a daily driver than my '04 M3 convert. The 8-speed transmission is great and there is always plenty of power on tap. Getting a legitimate 20mpg on highway, 14-16 in the city. My only regret is getting 3rd row seats and not adaptive drive. My 4 and 6 year-old complain about the 3rd row being too small...
Comfort seats are worth the money.

Also, I am assuming you would be looking at a September build, which will have some bonus features relating to iTunes. There are continuing rumors of software updates which will dial up the boost and performance, so hope to see something for the 50 soon.

Good luck with your search. At work, so no pics to share other than the Avatar. Found silver/black to be a nice combo.
