Third row seat question

For all those out there with the third row seat...

I was under the impression that when you get the third row with the sliding second row, you could get extra second row leg room by sliding the second row seat all the way back. Can anyone verify this? Or do you get the same amount of leg room in the second row, but you can make it even less by sliding the 2nd row forward...

Thanks. Just trying to decide on spending the $1700 to get a few more inches of leg room in the back seat...

X

The seat slides forward to give the 3rd row more legroom(which it needs desperately) or to create more cargo space. The rearmost position is where it would be in a "fixed" location in an X without 3rd row.

As a side note - I believe you also get the self leveling suspension with the 3rd row(at least that's how it worked on my '09). Not sure if that is still the rule. Havent kept up with options since I'm not looking to buy another X anytime soon. Now I'm on to comparing 3er options.

I have 08 with 3rd row and the only thing i dont like is no AC air back there. There is an air vent but just blow air.lol Bmw needs to hook the back airvent into the car AC/Heater unit. You will not like seating back there in summer time. HOT

Echo the same thoughts as I also had an 08.

My 2011 has vents between the seats in the back row which do blow cold air.

You need to get the 3rd row seats to get the auto leveling rear suspension in the 6 cylinders (at least in the US). The V8 comes with it automatically I believe. In Europe, you can order it separately (which is the way it should be).

Thanks guys! That is what I wanted to know!

Third row seats give you the option to get LESS 2nd row leg room, not MORE.

Now to decide to add HUD or ventilated seats instead...I do drive with polarized sunglasses...

BUT, I believe with the third row you can tilt the second back further than the fixed second row and this makes a huge difference to the comfort in the second row. I have third row and really thought I would never use it. We have used it many times.

We just took delivery of a 2011 35d...loving the HUD which incorporates nav directions/arrows. Also using the third row plenty. G/L

somewhat stating the obvious but worth mentioning.
with a 3rd row, X5 will NOT have a spare tire.
