Confort Seats vs. Sport Only Seats

I've done tons of searching but cannot find the specific differences between the two. Please confirm my assumption:

they are the same seats (size) but the comfort seats have additional adjustment. The only additional adjustment is the button which allows you to adjust the contour of your back.

True or what am I missing? I'm about to buy a 09 X5 this week and want to make sure what i"m missing.

Try them both out. Sit in one and compare it to the other. I didn't think it made that big of a difference either until I actualy sat in them each.I ordered mine with the comfort - and nappa..

The sport seats have more side bolstering. They look better, more sporty, IMO.

All due respect... seats are for sitting in, not looking at... Side bolstering that cannot be adjusted (and I am not agreeing the sports have more) can be a detriment- or horror, if your back doesn't 'fit'...

The comfort seats have multiple independent adjustments to allow you to match the seat to your physique.

Of all the options, the seat that holds my body seemed to be THE most important.

(There was a recent thread here or on bimmerfest about this very question....)

The sport seat bolsters are pretty prominent, and stiff. I can hardly even turn around to tend to the kids when needed... or just to grab something from the back seat. From an everyday practicality perspective, they are not needed but I don't mind having them. I do like the look and would say it counts for something. Despite the praise for the comfort seats, I still don't see myself paying $1200 for it after paying for the sport pkg that already charged for seats. In your position, I'd go comfort seats.

I personally wouldn't order without the comfort seats. Really nice for the driver and also for the passenger (great to nap in!) I don't think I've ever been in better seats - esp on long drives

Having test drove both, I didn't notice much of a difference in comfort, but admittedly my time in the seats was limited. I felt more secure in the sport seats, which do indeed have more side-bolstering, as you can tell easily from the pics.

I think the OP should test drive both kinds and judge for himself.

The looks of the seat matter some to me, as do the looks of the entire vehicle. That is one of the reasons I bought an X5, specifically the sports activity model. If comfort is paramount, have you considered buying a Lexus?

Sorry to hear you don't "fit" into a conventional seat.

I got a good laugh out of this one.. Someone buying an X5 with comfort seats should consider buying a Lexus? Oh man, that was priceless.. Thanks for the laugh..

I test drove both, and in the end choose the Sports seats, but its all down to individual taste. Sports seats just worked for me ... and now having spent 30,000 miles with them ... and some long drives ... 4,000 mile roundtrip ... can say I still find them very comfortable.

thanks for the feedback.. the problem is i'm looking to buy used both cars (one with comfort one with sport only) are both far away. I have driven both and remember the sport being a little tight, the comfort being amazing. having owned 5 bmw's, all with sport, the sport seats can be a little tight even unconfortable for my frame 6'3 215. my current seats, 08 m3 sedan, are finally awesome.

i will spend the extra time to find comfort seats. its a little tougher, but i have a problem with seats and dont want to chance it. i will have this x5 for 4 years and dont want regrets.

oh, and when buying used its not $1200 out of my pocket. just takes extra effort to find one with sport + comfort seats which 25% of them do.
