trunk only opens up with remote, why it doesn't close?

How come we can only open the trunk from the remote and inside button and can't close it the same way?
I hope it's not only my car

Foxx,

It's because you have a USA X5. That's the way BMW made it work for us here.

Many European companies, such as BMW, are paranoid about being sued in the U.S. So they do stupid things, such as eliminate the remote closing of the rear hatch so people will not close the hatch while someone is under it, to avoid being sued.

I guess that makes Mercedes Benz owners smarter than the average BMW owner?

Mercedes owners like to pay more for less...BMW owners are the complete opposite.

LOL - My GL opens and closes form the the remote and from inside. It is definitely a nicer feature I was missing from my X5.

I had an 04 Lexus RX which did the same. I could open and close the hatch from the remote.

Toyota fixed that, my 09 could do both, but they made it super annoying by requiring you hold the button on the remote or dash for 5 seconds before it would do, which is an eternity, they they make it go about half as fast as the X5 and beep the whole time it is doing it. It is things like that and the Nav being locked out when moving (and being terrible when it can be used) that drove me away from the Lexus brand - the car is like having your Mom with you yelling at you when you do things she doesn't approve of. Of course once you drive the X5, there is no comparison in the driving experience and you can't go back!
