X5 Premium Sound System?????

Im 28 with a baby on the way and Im just not sure if its worth it for the better sound system. I should get the X5 in about 3-4weeks but I can still change this option. The X is already my dream car but not sure if the standard sound system is ok or not. I currently have a 335xi with the harman kardon which I like but not sure I will be blasting music with a baby in the back seat. I went to the dealership and the 2 x5's they had the premium sound system. Any opinions on the standard sound system would help. Thanks!

I have the premium sound system, worth every penny. I have two kids and keep it soft when with me. However, when I'm alone that's another story.. Tons of power and very good sound for a stocker.. The standard sound system is not good at all if you're an audiophile.

Im also 28 with a baby on the way. I love my music and have a full infinity surround system at home with 2 10" subs.

That said, my commute is short, the X is the "family" car, and my wife's tolerance for loud and/or country music is pretty limited, and was before the baby too. I havent regretted staying with the std system. It works fine for my Ipod and talk radio at the volumes I normally listen. You don't need a great system to listen to MP3's and AM radio. I agree too that once the baby is born, the radio will be off. Save the money and buy a nicer/easier to use car seat and stroller for the baby.

Don't wake the baby for anything.

Go for the premium sound system. If the standard system in the 2011 is anything like the one in the 2010 it is complete crap. It only has 4 speakers and the volume sucks.

Premium sound is a must have imo. Just the right amount of kick. I live for good music and I want it to sound clean with all the highs and lows.

Get the premium sound. The standard system is only "adaquate", meaning that although it's not terrible, you will constantly notice the hollow-ness of the sound that comes out.

I've got to chime in an endorsement of the premium sound - for the first time ever, I'm actually happy with the sound in a BMW. The stock system in our E39 was horrendous. The E60 was greatly improved, but still marginal. Premium E70 finally gets it right, although I'll never understand why they don't start using 6.5" drivers in the doors.

Although, if I had a baby on the way, I might not bother. What good is a great sound system when you don't use it? Does anybody know if the 2011 uses the 10 speaker system, or the atrocious 4 or 6 speaker setup? The 10 isn't so bad, but the 4 setup is basically inferior to a Honda Civic.

I'll say it again... If you ever plan on being alone in your X5 then get the premium sound system or else you'd wish you did! The kids are not going to be with you 100% of the time..

I do like the premium sound in the X5 and have it but I never listened to the base one for comparison. I definitely appreciate the improved sound quality but wanted the package for the iPod connectivity, etc.

I have noticed it a little warm (mid bass) compared to the E60 and especially the Z4. But I'm still tweaking the EQ and other settings.
