I wouldn't use it. 20 weight is pretty thin.

I wouldn't.

But, if I were tempted to use the jug of 5w-20, I would buy a jug of Mobil 1 5w-30 or 5w-40 and mix it 50/50.

No.

Not even knowing which of the motor options you have, I'd say no.

Just to use up "a jug" of oil? Crazy...

If you have a very high ambient temperature, yes. How hot does it get in Norge?

"protect"?

What a strange (yet common) term about oils... it's root is in the fear that oil marketers like to play upon...

Just like you use the correct tool for a particular job, you select the oil for the application. You don't just go to bigger wrenches for more protection.

Do you have a warranty on that car? If yes, use ONLY the oil BMW specs.

There are tens of thousands of posts on "What oil should I use in my BMW?" I'll leave it at that.

A

Edit: We still don't know the motor he is asking about....

I would ONLY use the manufactured recommended oil. BMW Longlife in the viscosity that is specific for your region.

Sounds like a plan.

Why ask? Your mind is made up.

Oil threads are just a waste of time. (Which does not slow them down a bit.)
