Radio remains on after turning off car

I have a "new to me" 2008 X5 with comfort access. When I arrive at my destination and turn off the car, the radio remains on, unless I lock the doors or push the start button again (with my foot off the gas, otherwise it starts up the car again). Is there anyway to change this default? It is particularly annoying when I am parking someone where with our new baby and I have Howard Stern blasting F-bombs from the car when trying to deal with the baby....

If you hold down the start button when you turn it off for about 1.5 seconds, it will jump right to the "shut down" mode with the radio off. This is the same as if you push the button two times in a row.

I just got my new 2011 X5 this morning, and I have been exploring it's mysteries.

In addition to what was just mentioned (yes, JUST found that out a few minutes ago) it will also go off after you lock the car.

The manual is not CRYSTAL clear in this respect (though so far, overall, I've found the manual to cover most every aspect), but I believe it will also shut off after ~20 minutes so it won't wear the battery down.

But yeah, I had the same feeling - like there's a ghost in the car, but everything is fine.

I am very quickly discovering that MANY things in a BMW do not operate like in other cars. For example, changing tracks/stations. I thought something was wired wrong - it seemed backwards.

When I sat back for a minute to think about it, it dawned on me that it's entirely correct and logical: it isn't BACK and FORWARD, it's UP and DOWN through a list, and labeled exactly so. It just isn't what one expects.

That's correct. Also, as a usefull feature, not only will the radio play but you can also operate the windows and sunroof..

When wanting to turn off your BMW, the first push turns off the ignition but keeps the battery on. Pressing the button once more will turn off the battery. I love it and think it's a great convenience feature, for example if you are waiting to pick someone up but didn't want to be burning fuel.
