Arrow New BMW Connected Drive features and iPad, iPhone accessories

Innovations: BMW ConnectedDrive with new functions.
Thanks to the intelligent linking of the driver and his vehicle with the wider world, BMW ConnectedDrive is able to create fascinating possibilities for boosting comfort and safety as well as optimising the use of infotainment functions. BMW ConnectedDrive also takes the global lead when it comes to connecting smartphones and music players in the car.

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, BMW showcases a globally unique technology for integrating BlackBerry smartphones in the car, which among other things permits the display of emails including the text-to-speech function. BMW also presents the new Bluetooth interface technology that was created for the Apple iOS 4 operating system and allows the new Apple iPhone 4 to be integrated, among other devices. Also on show is the iPod Out function, which optimizes the operation of various Apple music players in the vehicle. New possibilities for online use are opened up by the WiFi hotspot function that provides rear-seat passengers using a notebook or iPad with wireless internet access while on the move.

So essentially, you end up with an iphone adapter that covers the nav screen? I was told that the iphone 4 would get a cradle in the armrest, just like the others.

I like the look of the iPad in the back seat for kids. When and where is this available?

Thanks!

bump!

I asked my $tealer about it and they looked at me like I was high and made it up.

Any ideas on when this goes on sale in the U.S. I'm dying for the headrest mount. This is exactly what I've been waiting for since I got the Ipad.

iPad mount in the center

I wonder if there is a center mount, otherwise kids in rear seat will demand one ipad on each seat.

Did you see this picture from the Paris Auto Show??? The aesthetics are just awful! How could BMW even show a car with this setup??

That mount is only for non iDrive equipped cars. There will be a mount for the cars with iDrive which fits in the armrest. This is also where the WiFi Hotspot will go. I did see pictures of the mount for an E70 and E71 but I could not get a copy!! I did however find this.........bottom right on page.

Original BMW Accessories : Networked mobility

My own dealer in the UK states March 2011 onwards for the release. He also thinks that some of the functionality will be limited for vehicles not OEM equipped with the new Combox Controller (Option Code 6VC), but as we have yet to see a UK Spec 'X' of any sort he did not know for certain. Assuming production started as expected in Week 40 for this option, then US dealers & Owners will know before us due to the length of time it takes to ship to the UK/Europe.

I'm being told by BMW Germany, that these ConnectedDrive Accessories will not be out until June or July. Has anyone heard anything differently about the availability of these?

I am very interested in the new iPhone 4 adapter (full functionality with music) coming out this summer as well. The WiFi Hotspot adapter also looks very interesting. I would imagine that you will not be able to connect both your iPhone as well as the WiFi hotspot adapter at the same time. You'd have to connect your iPhone and use an iPhone App like MyWi to set up a Hotspot in your BMW. Any alternatives?
