Lucky me...

So, for the few that have seen my posts (usually to ask a question that has been answered a thousand times) regarding my new (to me) 08 3.0si, I'm upgrading. Well, due to the dealership's inability to determine the cause of a slight vibration at highway speeds...I'm moving up to a 4.8. I'm so excited (as you can tell by my using the school girl "I'm so excited").

Ill keep you all posted on the purchase and with pics of my new hotness.

You gonna get a PPI on this one or just see what happens?

Seriously..why do people buy used $40k items and not have a profession inspection?

I got the PPI on the last one. SO I know whatever it wasn't a SERIOUS issue. But, I did trade in an 09 RRS for it. My wife lost confidence in the X after three visits and new set of tires (at no cost to me) didn't fix the vib. Not mention the "did we get rid of my truck for a..." convo that kept coming up. It wasn't awful, but any vibration for, like you said, a luxury vehicle...not acceptable.

But that's the beauty of a credible dealership, they were willing to make the customer happy. PPI is good, but if you buy at from a bad dealership....just as bad as getting one without the PPI IMO

I'm surprised a PPI by an independent mechanic (not the dealer) failed to ID a vib that was that bad.

But you are 100% correct that the integrity of the dealer can make all the difference in the entire experience.

were the rims on the 3.0 OEM? It could be either the tires (which you said were changed) or the rims being out of round.

Just to clear up, the vib wasn't extremely noticeable, but was something that we did feel. And with the amount of money being spent, I wanted zero vibration.

To be honest, I'm thinking that one of them must have had a slight bend we didn't make it that far into the investigation process. One trip, they balanced the tires. On another, they found the tires had uneven wear and replaced them. And finally, they did a road force balance. After that, my wife (who drove the Range the most) was a little upset about the three trips. So, to appeaser her (and get 4.8) I talked to the dealer about getting me into something else. To make the sale and subsequently more money, they were more than happy to fulfill our request.
