Bass Improvement on Sound System
I have been looking around the forum and can't seem to find an answer to my problem that does not involve creating a subwoofer enclosure. The sound from the system in our 2007 X5 leaves a lot to be desired, specially bass. From reading around it seems that the 2 subs are under the front seats. I wanted to know if there was any way to improve the bass by replacing these speakers and/or the amp that powers them. I don't think our car has the top sound system since there is no EQ interface. Thanks in advance.

You should have either 6.5" or 8" woofers underneath the seats. You can replace with something like Earthquake SWS 8" and power it independently, but that's about the only thing that will fit. You will have to deal with a sound profile change from stock that won't be very impressive unless you some compensation with some sort of audio equilization. I did this with our 2007 530i and thought stock was better. Problem is that the SWS can't do much midbass, so unless you compensate for that elsewhere in your system, it sounds worse.
Adding a sub in the trunk area will probably give better results. |

I honestly have been really disappointed with this system.
The one in our Infinitis have been so much better. So to get to the subs I have to remove the seats or is it enough to move them all the way forward? How can I tell which size they are? Thanks.

No, I don't think it's premium. Doesn't the premium have the CD changer? We only have a single CD drive.

I don't know if you can recognize premium system by CD changer, but mine has 6 CD changer in the glove box.

you can get fully enclosed 10" powered subs that are designed tight spaces and pack a fair punch.
I had one of these the arm rest of my e39 and it made a world of difference. I was thinking of putting it into the x5 at some stage but i'm still thinking of a good spot.

That's a possibility. How did you wire it up?
Thanks.

In the Idrive do you have the ability to adjust the EQ or just the treble/base. If you have EQ adjustment then you have premium sound. if not then you have the std sound system.

are you talking about the focal sub? I havent wired it up in the x5 yet but its the same as any other car...
remote start wire power cable ground cable tap into + and - speaker cable and your done. the bass eq, cut off and volume can be tuned directly from the unit. |
