2007/2008 X5
Hello Everyone!
As a previous owner of a 2004 and 2005 BMW X5 3.0i (and most recently a lease returned 2008 VW Touareg VR6) I wanted to ask everyone for their personal information on a 2007/2008 X5 I've decided to stop leasing and perhaps go the CPO route. How has the reliability been? Any major issues or rattles?

I then bought an X5 M, it is now 5 weeks old, I had use of it for 2 weeks before it went down with an engine fault, for 3 weeks now I have been in the dealers 3.0D X6 loaner. That is my X5 experience, summarised in one word, shit. |

My '08 3.0 has been very reliable and I put 120 miles a day on it. Nothing but an oil change and a bushing replacement so far. (23k miles on the odometer)

My 08 X5 4.8 has been very reliable. It now has a bit more than 50k, has extended warranty and maintenance up to 100k. My last X5 4.4i went up to 110k or so with just regular maintenance so I am expecting similar reliability with this 4.8. I usually put the car through pretty decent work out and put about 70-80 miles/day.

My only advice is to avoid the 2007s, since it was the first year of the E70.
Glad you'll be back in a Bimmer, B-Boi!

Agreed - I had an 07 4.8 - lots of problems, i got the X5 in Nov of 2006. Dealer took back the car in april of 08 due to continued adaptive drive software failures and gave me a new 08 4.8. THis car i had for 2.5 years and has been flawless, never saw the dealer. I sold the car for 39k with 35k miles on it. So yes, i would avoid the early model 07's.
