This is what BMW is trying to get customers to do (custom order cars), and then deliver them quickly.

Oh please.
The OP got lucky that his dealer had a open slot almost ready for production that they were able to convert to his specifics... nothing to to with a BMW initiative. We've seen hundreds of posts detail 'order/wait/status/production/delivery'..... "prep center" is a building in Spartanburg. Your car was not 'transported' anywhere, it is just that the website was designed to include transport from germany to the US prep center. It is in spartanburg waiting for a train. It will be 10-14 days to get to you. First to VPC in Oxnard, CA...then 2-3 days to get on a truck to norcal |

Prep Center is beside the factory, so it gets there the same day it finishes, then takes up to a week to get on transport and then 10 days to west coast typically. If you get lucky it will get on the train quickly and you will have it in the next 2 weeks!
