X5 catches fire, Kills owner

Seems she was either pulling in or pulling out of her garage and bumped into a gas can or some other flammable liquid and her X caught fire. she died sitting behind the wheel.

lesson to all! In the USA gas and propane containers are not allowed to be stored inside garages.

Does anyone think that the shift lever in the X could have played a part in this accident? I live in DC and am familar with the story. It seems as though the truck might have gone forward first, hit a flamable component, and then tried to reverse out.

I am awaiting delivery of our X5d and the only thing I found puzzling about the car is the operation of the shift lever. I guess you get used to it after awhile, but to me it just seems a bit cumbersome.

I don't think a fire around the car would incapacitate the driver for quite some time.

Her inability to back out of the garage makes it seem like foul play is involved.

Not to mention her political career.

This whole story sounds fishy to me. First of all, bumping a fuel container will not set off a blazing fire that will engulf , and kill you instantly. Sounds like a very incomplete story.

the story is incomplete. apparently the husband and kids were in the house too. you would think she would be able to back out of the garage and get out of the car right?
anyways. this time of year people tend to put their propane tanks and gas cans in the garage or basement to keep them out of the weather. it's against the law and also endangers yours and firefighter's lives. a propane tank exploding inside a home will leave nothing behind but a big hole in the ground.

Where are you supposed to store them then? Bomb shelter in the backyard?

figures a vol fan would ask that lol you can store it in your $^&** if you like, just not in the house. how about a shed? or under your deck? store it in your house and a firefighter is injured by it, you will be charged if it doesn't kill you too.

Semi-OT, and not piling on the sad fire story where the woman was killed, but here's a clip of a BMW burning up the other day in ATL area...maybe a broken fuel line?
