I'm with all above: even our low tech, non-XDrive '01, with dedicated snows,
ran our steep, icy, snow covered roads like a mtn goat. It never shakes its
head or gets out of shape. The newer XDrive models should do even better.
You will be impressed, and often amazed...but, snow tires!

I went with bmw factory set up with 18 inch wheels and pirelli scorpion's and they are just great in the snow. Got the vehicle in march and we had one last big dump of snow and I just had the all seasons on, and it was quite the dump of snow, I got stuck in my driveway..But needless to say with the winter tires on I have been very impressed. You can really tell how advanced the awd system is and like has been said before you can tell it is working to keep you out of trouble and starting off well.
