On previous models, you just unplugged the vacuum line at the flap valve in the exhaust pipe, and put a golf tee in it to seal it. It is universally known as the 'golf tee mod'
Given the risks of damage from the engine not warming up completely, and the fact that the exhaust restriction helps with warm-up, I would not do it in the winter. It is debatable whether it has much effect on engine warming speed, or just catalytic converter warming, or whether it is just for sound regulations. That said, a quick search showed that disconnecting it throws a code that the dealer will see. Not sure if that matters to you or not.
