I will be switching out the RFTs (new if anyone wants to buy ) once i get the plates for the new x5. So I will need a spare tire...just in case something happens. I was wondering will a 17" rim that is 3 series fitment clear the brakes on the 2011 x5 diesel Last edited by machine; 01-22-2011 at 04:36 PM. |

If you have third-row seating there's no room for a spare. If you don't have the third row then there is a space-saver available in some markets that will fit under the floor. You will still need a jack, wheel brace etc. The only other option is the factory spare wheel carrier that mounts off the back of the vehicle and swings away to give access to the rear tailgate. IOM, it's easier to stick with the run-flats.

Even if the E46 wheel did clear the brakes, you problem you have is that an E46 wheel is designed for a car that's about two-thirds the weight of the E70 and the rolling diameter would need to be the same so as not to confuse the DTC/DSC or load up the diff. You also need to consider the bolt pattern and the off-set.

The E46 hub bore is the same as the X3, 72.5 mm.
The E70 hub bore is 74 mm. So no, they won't fit, even if they were the correct offset, cleared the brake rotors, and were strong enough.

Good. That's cleared up that silly idea.

You'll be lucky to get an answer to the brake clearance question as fitting an E46 wheel to an E70 just doesn't make sense and I suspect no-one else would have tried. I'd be surprised if it does clear the brake caliper but even if it does the other issues are insurmountable.

If you have an E46 wheel - order the adapter and try it yourself. I feel like NO one who drops the kind of money we drop on E70's would ever have tried that.
Not trying to be negative, just saying that it's one of those few and far between questions that you probably will get more comments/questions than help. |
