Yeah, diesel pump in one hand, iPhone in the other! I'm sure I looked like a nut!!

Our white 1983 300TD Diesel wagon served us proud for 197,000 miles. When I sold her, she was still going strong (little transmission slip between gears 2-3), but engine was still fit, factory A/C was ice cold and all power options still worked..including auto antenna!

I like the name Greta too! My spouse could not believe I would name a 2011 BMW Great...but it fits (well, kind of.

Let us know, if your d gets a name too!!

I haven't had any issues with dirty diesel handles yet. If/when it happens, I'll run into the station and wash my hands. No biggie. The last time I was filling up I saw the attendants outside cleaning the pump handles and pumps themselves so maybe the station I frequent is cleaner than most.

I don't have one yet.....maybe a poll is in order...a strong, yet feminine name...

it must suck when you step in the stain on the concrete also aye? i hear they make booties you can put over your tassle loafers also.

you haven't lived until you are under your F350 trying to get the poorly placement engineered fuel filter off the frame rail as the diesel fuel runs into your armpit. buck-up Chester.

Or the oil filter housing that holds TWO QUARTS of oil, and drops when you unscrew it... no matter how much you say "I got it this time"....

Must say that this is the only thing I dislike about X5 diesel ownership. At least you don't have to visit the filling station too often.

In the UK almost all service stations have both polythene or vinyl gloves as well as paper towels at every pump. I also carry a box of vinyl disposable gloves in each of our 3 Diesel cars for the rare occasions when the station has run out. A box of 100 pairs isn't expensive and lasts for years.

Some stations provide you a glove, if you ask! Most do not though. I keep a handful of these thin, poly gloves in the center console or glove box.
500 gloves for about $5 USD! Since you only need one glove to fill up...that is 500 fill ups, and we know with the great mileage our E70 Diesels get...these 500 gloves are going to last a LONG TIME!

In Canada I've never seen a station with gloves for diesel pumps. If the pump is pretty messy I just use the paper towels.

LOL ~ great counter point (and a visual that will live a long time in my brain). Before you cry "wimp" I've always laughed that I only have an issue when I'm dressed up in a suit on my way to a client meeting (trust me, it's not common).

As for washing up in a bathroom -- for me it doesn't have any effect (Oil/water issue ~ remember?).

Yes, I have seen puddles on the ground, but those I can easily see and step around.
