it might be worth noting the VIN on the troubled vehicle (should've gotten it during build) so you're sure not to get it later. Can they swap VIN plates?
![]() BTW, I saw the new X3s out on the road with the corona lights... looks nice... I can't see any reason they wouldn't put it in the next E70s (it's in the same fricken production shop)... but that's just me.

While I agree that you should get a new vehicle and not a new engine only, it was good of them to tell you up front about the oil leak. Unless it was excessive, it could have taken you a few days to discover it and by then you'd be stuck with the car and the replacement engine deal.
I read a fair number of complaints about how BMW handles things. As I am new to the brand I guess it's too early for me to say, but in general I sense they at least try to do the right thing for the customer (and therefore their own reputation). But in the end they are a business with the usual constraints, and neither they nor anyone else can go around giving away stuff. My experience with an MB dealer that eventually escalated to MB's regional manager did not give me this feeling. They screwed up badly during a service causing me and my family great inconvenience and even danger, and it took them more than two years and some sleuthing on my part to get them to even admit it. |

My local dealer has indeed a very good reputation and I made a point to thank them for their honesty. However, I don't think they informed me out of the kindness of their heart but simply because I was supposed to take delivery of the vehicle two hours later. I don't think the customer who ultimately ends up with the vehicle will be as well informed.

Just got a call from the dealer: they are going to give me the exact same deal (price and finance rate) on a brand new 2012 BMW X5 50i! My sales guy worked really hard for me and he deserves a lot of credit. I'm glad this whole thing is finally behind me. Now I just have to wait (again!)...
