Unhappy

Yeah... The more I think about it, the more I think it's probably best to order a new vehicle. I haven't concluded the transaction officially yet (just a 5000$ deposit). I'm worried the dealer will screw something up. It's not a squeaky door handle we're talking about after all...

Yes - not sure if your buying it out, but if so, even more reason. If this is documented in work order, whether or not it has any bearing, a potential would be later on would say damn.. engine was replaced... its never the same like factory.

As well, this opens up the potential for more issues later... anything is possible, so I'd say save yourself the headache and let it go.

Definitely definitely definitely, get a new one from the factory. Just be thankful this happened before delivery.

You have not taken delivery...it is their car.

If the car was on the lot already and they were trying to sell it to you with them telling you they had to replace the engine, would you really buy it?

Tell them you want a new order or your deposit back.

Thanks for your comments guys. You confirmed what I was already thinking. I will order a new X5 on Monday. Two more months to wait...

Called my sales guy this morning with the news that I wouldn't accept this vehicle. He called back in the afternoon along with the sales manager and the service manager and they tried very hard to convince me that an engine replacement was a pretty standard operation and that I shouldn't worry about it.

I asked them, since they were so sure, if they were willing to extend the warranty to 6 years free of charge but they declined. I basically had to trust their word (yeah right!).

So I told my SG to find another 2011 X5 50i with the same equipment or order a new one from the factory but, apparently, 2011 models can no longer be ordered. I am willing to wait so I might end up with a 2012 (corona rings maybe!).

Thanks again for your comments. I will keep you posted as the story develops!

it might be worth noting the VIN on the troubled vehicle (should've gotten it during build) so you're sure not to get it later. Can they swap VIN plates?

BTW, I saw the new X3s out on the road with the corona lights... looks nice... I can't see any reason they wouldn't put it in the next E70s (it's in the same fricken production shop)... but that's just me.
