Battery problem after 3 days owning :(
The battery light did flash when I test drove it but the dealer said it would charge when I drive it... Everything was fine until tonight. Is this the alternator? I have a certified pre owned so there is a warranty but the dealer is pretty far. |

Welcome to owning a 2007 E70
Sorry!Within a week of me owning a 2007 X5, it was towed to the dealer at least 2 times, and I spent months and months in an X3 or little 328i! It was the norm for my car to lose phone setting, radio/satellite settings and time and date were ALWAYS missing or wrong!! |

The dealer and BMWNA (along with several other customers at the dealer at the same time, with new '07 E70s) bought our X5s back from us. The battery issues, and erasing presets and settings was mind boggling frustrating. I could not take it anymore, and obviously the dealer and BMWNA figured the same!
My dealer told me the 2002-2005 7 Series and 2007-2008 X5 are the two most problematic models BMW has had to deal with in modern BMW models history ![]() So sorry!! |

Battery is probably dying. Tell the dealer they need to do a charging system diagnosis. You can get the CPO coverage anywhere, but the battery is not covered under the CPO...so the non-selling dealer can soak you for the diagnostic work up. Contact the selling dealer, explain the situation- stress that you don't want this to turn into a cluster F, so you are giving them the opportunity to fix it quickly and easily at their direction. Yes, I still bought it. Silly me, I trusted the salesman... He reminded me of my Dad- ex military too.
Anyway, I got a followup email from the customer relations manager asking about my experience so I emailed her all of my concerns. She responded really quickly, said I should bring the X5 back to the dealer at my convenience, they will make the repairs and give me a loaner. I feel that's fair and I hope it gets resolved quickly as I have a road trip planned soon. /jackie |

Make sure the dealer doesn't make you pay for an Energy Diagnosis. If they insist that you do pay, just replace the battery, it's much cheaper. An Energy Diagonis requires they charge the battery overnight before they perform the test. I don't even want to know how much that costs....
But most likely you need a new battery. I have a 2007 and I've been casually shopping for a replacement since I'm due for one although I haven't had any indiciation my battery is on its way out. |
