Car "reprogrammed" and now it feels weird..

So the dealer "re-programed" the car and now it feels different...

When I'm cruising at any speed, and I try to increase the speed WITHIN the same gear to maintain speed, I feel a jolt a couple times within the gear as if its getting "confused." I feel like its the fuel injector but this wasn't a problem before the car went in for other issues. The dealer performed a "reprogramming" and now this new problem arised.

I feel the jolt also after driving highway and coming to a stop at a red light. If I'm sitting at the red light, I feel something jolting or jerking the car several times. This only happens when the car is in D and not in park.

What do you think it is? I have driven over 400 miles after the car was reprogrammed but neither I or the dealer can figure out what it is.

Btw, I have a 2007 3.0si X5 with roughly 40k miles now..

Any suggestions?

You should never have let them re-program the car. What kind of jolt is it? When taking the car to the dealer, make sure that the diagnosis that they claim is legit. But for this problem, tell them to reset the transmission and BMW and Mercedes Benz transmission fluid is garanteed for life (so do not do a transmission service). Best of luck. SM.

Sorry, but this really isn't good advice. Guaranteed for the life of what? Guaranteed until the transmission fails at around 100k miles because it never had a fluid change? I know this type of conversation will bring up all sorts of opinions, but even the people that work for ZF-the company that makes most if not all of BMW's automatic transmissions-recommend that the transmission fluid be changed at around 50-60k miles and with the same interval thereafter. This practice will extend the life of the transmission and can help prevent a very costly repair down the road.

Now if you have 80-100k miles on a transmission that has never had a fluid change, then it may be well to leave it alone. The fluid change can dislodge the old sludge inside and put it into places that can affect operation-which can cause failure.

The reason I sold my 03 x5 was because they did a transmission service and the transmission started to slip. I took it to an independent BMW service and some Russian dude told me that the cars transmission fluid should not be replaced. This all happened after they re-programmed the car.

1. Try resetting the transmission yourself. Search for it, but the steps involve turning on the accesory power and depressing the accelerator to the floor for 30sec of something like that. It's worth a try. Otherwise, it's back to the dealer.

2.) BMW Transmission Fluid is "special", it's a premium fluid made by BMW from a secret BMW Oil Field in Munich. It will last the lifetime of your transmission. The transmission is expected to last 50k miles. Cheers.

I am going to try it in the morning, but if it doesnt work, what do I even tell them at the dealer? I don't know how to explain the "problem."

Oil changes have been done on time. The last oil change was only 5k miles ago.

Shantf1 - How bad was the slip after you had it reprogrammed? I am sort of feeling a slip now. Not sure what to do? I called the service advisor he told me it should "wear off as I drive it more." I am not sure if the transmission fluid was replaced or not.

Really not sure what to do next. The car only has 40k miles- still under full maintenence warranty until jan 2012.

There is no such thing as a "maintenance warranty"... you must mean that silly, useless and overprices "extended maintenance plan"

Here's the good news about that plan:
- It only covers the bare minimum maintenance that BMW publishes
- Since BMW says the tranny fluid will last 100k miles, or in some cases, "forever", they will NOT pay to have that maintenance done.
- Any issues with 'driveability' or performance are not "maintenance" and you will pay dearly for BMW topoke around and ultimately tell you it is fine.

Now if it is under warranty, find out precisely what they reprogrammed, then keep bringing it back until they fix it.
