Wanted to thank everyone here for all the great info! Especially good to see Ard... we seem to have similar taste in cars!

So far I've been very happy with the decision!

Great choices...I am 3 weeks into our new X5...the only differences between yours and hers is she has the 35i w/o M pkg and no 3rd row seating..also chose Cinammon brown interior....great looking vehicle!

Not sure check Dinan Cars - BMW Performance Products, Upgrades and Services, there is software for the engine in other models so I am sure if it is not already it will come.

Dinan Exhaust

So I have had a chance now to drive the car for a day with the Dinan exhaust for the X5 50i and I can give some feedback.

First the good, (1) Noticeably louder rumble at startup and warmup to idle (2) No drone, but louder at mid-throttle on up, (3) much less turbo lag, quicker throttle response, most likely due to less backpressure, (4) faster seat-of-the-pants feel of the line and under hard acceleration.

The bad (1) the black tips when dirty with salt and road debris look plain and almost stock (2) the tips stick out about 3 inches more than stock and sort of look 'odd' (3) louder exhaust note at steady cruise on highway may be disturbing to rear seat passengers (4) cost, awfully expensive considering what you are getting, close to $4000 when installed.

I guess I just need a few more days to really decide if it was worth it. I think most of you who are looking for the best bang for your buck, get the software, keep the rest stock. I think for the money, they should have made the exhaust appear nicer, more substantial. The engineering is good, and the sound makes the X5 more like an X5 ///M, but I cannot help but feel a little buyer remorse.

Peace,
Noushy

Noushy,

Thanks for the feedback. If it's not too much trouble, can you post a pic? I did not see one on Dinan's website so I am wondering what it actually looks like. Does it have the quad-pipe appearance of the X5///M? Or does it retain the dual pipe look of the stock 50i exhaust?

Pic

Sorry if this is not the best pic, all I had was my blackberry and about to go to bed. It is a quad pipe setup, much like the older E53 4.4i setup. Here it is. Enjoy.

Ha, looks exactly like my Dinan pipes for the 2006 4.4i, except they colored it black! Same offset, same shape, same lettering. So I guess they did not re-design it at all for the 50i. Don't worry, you will get used to the "sticking out" look, it took me a few months. I remember the first week after I had it done I was actually thinking about sawing the ends off! LOL. But now I like it. And the quad setup projects a more powerful look than stock IMO. It is a huge chunk of change, but now that you've done it you may as well enjoy it.

Wow...$4k for exhaust alone...I was hoping that included the software update as well. I have thus far been unable to locate any software packages for the N55 engine in the X5 on the Dinan site...hope they come soon, will probably go that route and leave the rest stock...would also be nice if the software could open the dual exhaust flap either full time or earlier in the rev range, but that's just me nit-picking. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm wondering the same thing. I know we can use jb3 but dinan would be better.

Active Drive?

Does yours have Active Drive?

Do you have any other pics of the interior? I am looking at an 11 50i M Sport AD with Tobacco interior.

Thanks, Steve
