I haven't had any issues, and we've had weather down to -30(F) this winter. If the car sits in the parking lot at work for 10 hours or so without starting, I see the glow plug light come on before it starts, but otherwise, nada.
I did check with a client of mine that is a local fuel distributor. Other than switching diesel grades, the winter additives that most fuel companies use are simply a commercial grade of anti-gel similar to Power Service or most of the other commercially available formulas. If used in the proportion spec'd on the bottle label, I seriously doubt that there's any risk of harm in using a touch, when the weather gets frigid.
