I'd be willing to wait if I had any confidence that the Eco credit would still be around. I am leaning toward moving ahead with the 2011.

Here is my struggle…if I build them the same (basically fully loaded minus Nappa leather) I save $2,000 by going with the 2012. $66k for 2012 and $68k for 2011 at invoice before the Eco credit. But if the credit goes away for 2012 in the Aug-Oct time frame then I’d save $1,500 by going with the 2011.

I really wanted those new headlights to and would hate to have to spend $300 on new bulbs and wiring it up to have the look of LED halos with the Lux kit. I’m also not sure if the halos would have the same even white color and brightness of the 2012 headlights.

The only thing that makes sense around the diesel being in the fall is if they switch over to the 40d. Which would mean within 6 months I’d take a huge depreciation hit with the new model coming out.

2012 35D Date?

I think we all wish that the 35 D changed to a 2012 model in April like the rest of the x5's but nothing is definite from BMW.

I would suggest however that what makes sense in manufacturing and would be advantageous to BMW is to raise/re-configure their pricing this April along with the other X5 gas models, change the relatively minor exterior features of the 35D now and then make the big changes of the engine and/or transmission in October.

I am totally unqualified to make this claim but it makes sense to raise prices and do the minor exterior changes sense these vehicles are coming out of and along the same assembly line. Why would BMW continue to use 2 sets of parts for the exterior details on basically the same X5?

My thoughts worth what everyone paid for them....

F150 Duke - The question is, are you willing to wait?

We were not, we are replacing a '06 Honda Ody that had the passenger side taken out by a plow before Christmas. It's repaired but has gremlins (plow took out the electronics of the van). At this point, I want it gone so waiting for 2012 is out of the question. We also plan on keeping the X5 35d for 10 years so the initial depreciation isn't much of a concern for us.

Found out from CA that it is going into production next week and ETA is still end of March, can't wait!

Very good point. ttopper has one too, in that I'd be suprised if they'd still use two different sets of headlights for the X5.

I emailed my CA and will let you guys know what I hear back. I might also at least wait to the end of the month and try and sell my truck instead of trading it in. Then I also increase the odds it's built with the new 2012s and get the new headlights.

Just got an email from the SA saying that diesel won't switch over to 2012 until the fall. Looks like this might actually be depressingly true. I find it hard to believe that they'd still use two different headlights though.

If I order an '11 I'll wait till the end of March so that it's built with the '12 which get the new headlight to increase the odds of getting the new headlights.

I think it is unlikely that they would build two versions of the vehicle with different headlights, trim, etc, just for the North American market.

What is likely is that the US emissions certification for the 35d is specific to the 2011 model year. If they have trouble certifying it to 2012 model year emissions levels at this point in time, they could carry on just as they had planned but call the 35d a 2011 (which, honestly, it is anyway since this is 2011).

Just my $0.02

I 100% agree with JCL. Most likely an emissions issue and with 40d coming in the fall this makes the most logical sense.

Just go forward with the 2011! That's what we did. In paint shop today....done by tomorrow.

There's always something better coming around the bend. You'll never get ahead of it. Just enjoy the here and now!

And now I'm off my soapbox...
