Sure it can be done, but it is very expensive to go OE. BMW sell replacement seat covers with the heating elements sewn in. $$$$. Labour involves recovering the seats, adding the wiring harness, etc.
Aftermarket solutions are available. Lots of threads on this, including experiences of others who have do it. Do a search on heated seat retrofit. If you live in the Northeast , why didn't you get this option. I live in Southern Cal, and I got it.

I have the cold weather package that comes standard with the front heated seats and the steering wheel heating, not the rear. rear heated seats is an option one needs to choose when ordering a car new. I bought mine two-year old.
