X5 35d vs 2011 Touareg TDI
Can get the TDI Lux for 50.5k. Looking at used 2010 x5s inn that same range as I cannot find any new 2011s at what I consider to be a reasonable price. With dealers out of x5d's until the fall 2012 build, I can find anyone willing to negotiate. Thoughts on the VW v the BMW? PS- I know that this site will have some bias, but that's ok! |

Hello,
I had a 2008 Touareg and I totally loved it. It was extremely reliable and well built. I have seen the new one on the road and must admit I like the look and the interior looks stunning

Dealers are really out of D builds until next fall? Guess the diesel is catching on.

As a former Audi owner, my opinion is to stay away from VW products. And this is discounting for BMW 'reliability'

When I was ordering in November, with incentives and discounts I was able to get an X5d for less than a comparably equipped Touareg TDI, so I never seriously considered it.
That the dealer didn't have any to drive, was clueless regarding just about everything, VW.com still showed the 2010 model, and my personal experience with an early 2004 build (first model year of the first generation) Touareg certainly didn't help to sway me. That said, the new Touareg is a very nice vehicle. If my only X5d option was used, I would definitely drive them both and decide. I realize that the 2012 X5d isn't coming until fall, but are they not building the 2011 through summer? |

Can't find any builds
I haven't been able to find a dealer with any open build slots for 2011's. The dealers that have them on the lots are not budging.

Have a 2011 X5 35d and absolutely love it. Having said that, the 2011 VW Touareg Diesel is seriously impressive. Test drove one with a friend and the interior room is absolutely nuts. I think the look, though conservative, is very appealing and probably more timeless than the e70 design. Couple with the fact that up here I could have a decked out Touareg for about $65k CDN and my X5 cost me $87K, I wouldn't hesitate. A lot would have to go wrong with the Touareg to eat into $22K in cost savings. For that money, but extended warranty to boot.
My $0.02. |

The price difference here is only about 3000 comparably equipped (here in Nor Cal).

I think that I may bite the bullet and order a 2012 Touareg TDI Lux. Local dealer, who I like a lot, is willing to give me his first 2012 allocation at very very close to invoice.
Night Blue Metallic with Saddle is my build. Very impressive, perhaps slightly more 'modern' than the X5. It was (is?) a tough decision but in the end the T ended up being about $7000 less than the X...maybe more if the Eco credit disappears for 2012. |
