OT: iPhone 4 Pairing W/Car Question

Ok --

I have a 2011 X5 35d and recently up-graded from 3gs to iPhone 4..That ole 3gs worked perfectly pairing to my cars.

Here is the problem:

I was able to initially pair the iPhone 4 with the car ---- no problem at all.

However, if I leave the car, turn the vehicle off and then return to the car, it recognizes the bluetooth phone is there, but will not let me pair automatically -- not until I power the phone off and then back on.

Then the phone pairs again on it's own, no problem.

Wifi is turned-off, hotpot is turned-off, just the bluetooth is on..Wth?? I have so far deleted the phone from the car, and then re-paired it thinking that might do the trick - and it hasn't.

I also have the latest software on the phone according to iTunes...Anyone else run into this? Have a solve??????

My next trick is try my wifes iPhone 4 on my car and see if this happens again..She's had no issue auto pairing in her RX350...

My iPhone 4 reconnects automatically every time. I don't remember doing anything other than setting the pairing code. I just did as it says below. It can take a few seconds to reconnect when starting the vehicle, but it's usually less than 10.

In vehicle:
Enable "Bluetooth": "Main menu" -> "Telephone" -> "Option" -> "Bluetooth" -> "Bluetooth" on.
Pair new device: "Main menu" -> "Telephone" -> "Add new device"

On mobile device:
Enable "Bluetooth" and start pairing:
"Settings" -> "General" -> "Bluetooth" on. Mobile phone will automatically start searching for Bluetooth-devices in range.
Select "BMW xxxxx" device from the list of Bluetooth devices found.

Passkey entry vehicle and on mobile device (depending on the entry command prompt):
Enter identical passkey in car and mobile phone. Note: Complete pairing within 30 seconds or repeat procedure. "Data Communication" and/ or "Bluetooth-Audio" can be selected if compatibility is given and using desired.
Note: System holds a maximum of four devices. Delete devices via "Options" and select "Remove from list" if required.

On mobile device:
"PIN" must be four digits and press "OK". Note-that should be 'at least four digits'.
The device is now registered (paired).
Information about Bluetooth pairing will be found in the instruction manual of the mobile device.

Yep --

Protocols were followed for initial pairing and everything was great...It's the subsequent visits to the vehicle where I have to power down the phone to get it to pair again with the car.

I've encountered the same thing. I, now, basically totally ignore bluetooth and just plug in through the USB. I do like listening to music on my iPhone4 and getting all the features as well as the avatars anyway.

While it's true that the bluetooth should be flawless, it is not consistent.

No problem here with the iPhone4 and 2011 X5. The most I've had to do maybe once or twice is disable BT on the phone and re-enable to get the pairing established.

Yah,

My wife's iPhone 4 paired and re-connected flawlessly...Apple sent me a new phone and that (knock wood) seems to be fine.
