noise help

I know there are several older threads devoted to the hatch noise and I have read them all. I was wandering if someone could help explain what they mean by "rubber stops." I can't take it any longer.

Thanks!

It's on the left and right side of the "body" of the car. Halfway from the room to the bumper cover.

There are bump stops that can be adjusted from the inside of the car. That's one of the causes.

The others are the flap that covers the bottom gate, although a new updated design is probably in your 2011, and finally the latch itself for the top hatch can make sounds.

Thanks 3series! I try the tricks for the bump stops and latch when I get home.

My other question is if there are any updated tricks for the 2011 or is it the same?

No idea.

However, there is a factory supplied instruction sheet somewhere on this board with detailed pics of what the dealer does if you bring it in.

If you are a DIY'er it's worth a shot to try yourself.

FYI, my hatch was perfectly fine until I messed with my latch. It now has a minor squeak when going over bumps. I loosened the latch bolts to mess with it out of curiosity, actually I thought the latch should be more solid, but it really shouldn't be rigid and it isn't on brand new showroom cars. Anyway, I haven't gotten around to messing with it more to see if I can fix it.

A lot of folks with older X5's complained of a squeak that came from the bottom hatch flap. I had my flap replaced ~6months ago and BMW put in a updated flap that uses beefier plastic and the felt part that rubs against the lower hatch and was/is the source of noise for many people was also upgraded with beefier felt. I'm just assuming that all the LCI models have this new and improved version.

Nope, that's not the document, but close.

There is an E70 specific one. It's a little different with the E70, but the general idea is the same.
