Question Which black?

Hi, I'm new to this forum as I'm trying to gather information so I can upgrade my 2000 GMC Yukon with 200k+ miles to a 2008-2010 X5 4.8i.

I know I want black, I'm just not sure between JB or BSM. Does anybody have any hi-res photos of each? I believe that JB should give a deeper mirror like finish, but all my past vehicles have been metallic of some color.

Thanks.

I have had both colors. The jet black tends to show swirl marks from washing but looks really good when all cleaned up. The Black Saphire has a lot of metallic colors in the paint and has a tendancy to have a grayish heu in the light.

+1. JB is a softer paint so it "can" show marks but if you know how to take care of black cars, wash them carefully, etc it's not a problem. I had JB on my '01 X5 for 9 years and again on my current--love the clarity and shine.

I have a new X5 35i in Carbon Black. What's the trick to taking care of black cars? Please share or refer me. Until now I've always had silver cars. Thanks.

Well for any car in the upper price ranges we pay I think it makes sense to take care of it properly (maintenance, washing, etc)---but to each their own-- some don't really care nor have the time so it's all personal preference. But just as starting points: never take it to an automatic wash, don't ever let the dealer wash it, hand wash it yourself using quality microfiber towels to dry, good wash soap, keeping it waxed, etc. You can search the Detailing Forum-- there is a ton of info on there.

The only way to keep a black car clean is to not drive it and keep it in a sealed room.
