how do I know what transmision oil to use.
hello, I posted on this forum before regarding transmission oil changed for my 4.4 v8 x5. There is a questions about the transmission oil to use. I called two dealers and gave them my ven to them both. One of them said I should use the ESSO LT 71141 and the other said I should use Texaco ETL-8072B. So which one should I use? People here in the forum said I should look at the label on the transmission. What label am I suppose to be looking for. Where is it located at. Right now the only label I see is on the bottom of the transmission that said use "only bmw oil #83220142516". thanks in advance. Last edited by blaubenz; 04-07-2011 at 02:40 PM. Reason: I place it in the wrong forum |

I did a Google search on that part number- the one printed on you tranny saying "use this" - and got 2,960 hits.
I am willing to bet BIG money that one of those hits will have MORE information that you can hope to get here or in the X53 forum... definitive information, detailed data that will eliminate any doubt. Good luck A |

I think the Esso part number has been superceded by the Texaco part number.
