WHISTLING on the engine!

hi guys! my '07 e70 3.0 diesel started whistling a week ago. the higher the rev, the louder the whistling. it was like an ambulance. initial diagnosis of the dealership was the turbo but werent really sure. a week has passed and still NO DEFINITE DIAGNOSIS. they're now inspecting the whole exhaust system to rule out any other problems. they said if it's the turbo, i'd have to replace the whole assembly which cost like $3500. any suggestions as to what the problem is? or if need be, should i replace the whole thing or just a part of it? thanks guys.

Hi! Any update on ths issue? I also have a whistling (or ringing) while accelerating at 2500 rpm. It only whistles and rings while running / moving and NOT while revving it on a stationary position.

Awww! Sorry to hear that. Hope you don't mind answering a few more inqs - Was your whistling happen on revving up to a certain RPM or when increasing speed?

Thanks for that. Mine only whistles when you pick up speed and disappears when 60kph is achieved. Maybe mine is another issue. I hope it's not the tranny thank again.

Will update this thread when I solve mu issue for others info. Cheers!

Problem solved! There was a disconnected air hose that is connected to a black ribbed cylindrical plastic thing on the left front side of the engine compartment. I don't know what that tube is for but when I re-connected it, the whistling was gone.

Here is that part...
