ESS Tuning for a 4.8

Hi guys

Has anyone bought or heard anything about these?

N62B48 DirectFlash Performance Software - ESS Tuning | BMW Tuning Parts | BMW Racing, Tuning, Aftermarket, Performance Parts | Engine Power Chips | Performance Upgrades Chip

I'm looking at getting one as I'm a bit disapointed with the performance of the X5 4.8. I also want to get the auto change charactistics changed...the hanging in gears going up hill is rediclulous. Has anyone had any experience with this?

thanks in advance

I don't have any experience with that software, but it looks like it's only good for about 10 hp. I think the 4.8 is pretty quick as is, but I doubt that software will make any noticeable improvement...maybe 0.05 seconds in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile (say from 5.9 to 5.85 for 0-60 and from 14.7 to 14.65 for the 1/4). If you want a real improvement, you'll have to trade up to the 50i or M.

Just wondering if any X5 4.8i owner has done this upgrade. It's not cheap for what it offers...

Here's the updated link for ESS N62B48 E-Flash Performance Software

Typically these things aren't worth much without a CAI and a cat-back upgrade at the same time. I personally wouldn't spend a grand for 10 hp.

I get it, ECS is trying to take advantage of the customers who want more from their 4.8, and who don't care about costs. But what about us normal people? $1000 for 10-15 HP gains...and perhaps better throttle response (click the shifter to M/S mode...)?

IDK, I don't buy it. I think, when my transmission is in M/S mode, it's a drastic difference over regular automatic mode, that's good enough for me. If I wanted more power, I would trade it in for a 50i or an M.

Shame on you, ECS, for charging $1000 for a piece of hardware that can only be used in one vehicle, and only giving 10-15 HP. If it was $300, I'd be interested...but even that is a large price to pay for 10-15 HP.

Fixed

There is just not that much there with NAs...an engine is a gas-fueled Air Pump. Improve the pumping efficiency, and that increases HP. (The DME adds fuel to match the airflow achieved...)

A CAI and a catback are typically not hugely restrictive at peak HP and therefore will still be modest.

With SCs and turbos, you just code more boost, and voila, 20, 50, 100HP can be had. (Yes, its more complex than that, but the point is that you can alter the air pump via software, hence the large potential gain.)

Given DINANs pricing, 995 seems reasonable, no?

To the above, I meant ESS...not ECS. SORRY!

I agree with ard (I actually did that?) that the pricing doesn't THAT expensive compared to the super-charger options... There is just no other performance tune for this E70 4.8i in USA (except for Upsolute who are nowhere near me).

So, seeing as it's birthday, I decided to get myself as a birthday treat Should have it installed by weekend...

I have a bridge I can sell you for $1. It'll be yours, all yours! You can even rename it from its current name, the "Brooklyn Bridge."

In all seriousness, good luck. Next time, just send me $1000 cash.
