Low dust brake pads for 2011 V8 / 50i - now available!

For those of you that like to swap out your OEM pads for aftermarket low dust pads like I do good news! No more filthy wheels after a 30 minute drive!
EBC finally released the red low dust pads for our X5’s for the V8 / 50i. BMW changed the calipers on the 2011 in the front thus brake pad companies needed to design and produce them.
I swapped out my rear brake pads the same week I picked up my X with the EBC reds and really like them. The dust is much less than OEM with no squeaking.
Here's the information for anyone interested:
EBC Brakes-EBC Redstuff Low Dust Superstreet; Disc Pads;: buybrakes.com
The Mfg Part Number: DP31994C
I had mine drop shipped from EBC yesterday.
Enjoy!

Any change in braking performance that you've noticed?

I'm receiving them tomorrow, Monday. Once I slap them on I'll report back. In the past these brakes prodided increased braking ability with all of my other BMW's. The side benefit is low dust and cleaner wheels.

I went to their website, and the redstuff low dust pads are available for the 2011 X5 35d, front & rear!

I've never changed OEM pads to aftermarket, and as much as the brake dust KILLS me with BMW...I feel nervous doing it, especially since brake pads & rotors are 100% free under the BMW Maintenance Plan (4 years/50k miles).

If I buy these Front and Rear low dust pads....I must find an independent shop to install them, correct? Do they work with the brake pad sensors, or will I have iDrive warnings that my pads are low/need replacement?

Do you have any idea what a shop would charge to swap out the brakes pads??

Also, what percentage do you honestly think the pads will reduce brake dust? Now, with the OEM...even a 5 minute drive with gentle braking will coat the wheels with dust

Thanks a lot.

Cool, looking forward to hearing the results. The amount of brake dust with the stock pads is atrocious. I don't want a solution that compromises either the rotors or the braking distance though, but I don't have any knowledge to suggest one way or the other.

thanks!

I learned how to change pads back in 98 when I had my 1st M3. Since then I changed every pad, it's pretty easy really. The only tricky part is removing the spring. beyond that it's a snap.

I don't know how much a shop would charge. I can tell you that the total time it takes to swap out the fronts will only take me an hour. It should take a mechanic less than that. So this is what you're looking at for total labor costs per hour.

The dust is at least 90% less than OEM.

There are no faults. The sensor clicks right in perfectly.

I know my dealer pretty well and they know me as well. I simply tell them never to change my pads because I replaced them. As far as the warrantee goes, if the calipers or rotors every fail, my warrantee (ON THE BRAKES ONLY) would be ka-put. I have never had a problem in 13 years of BMW ownership.

Improved braking and less dust - it's a no brainer for me..

Good luck..
