It's been awhile since I have posted...I often just lurk. However, I have had the same battery issues with our '09 X5d. In Dec 2010 the battery died and left my wife stranded at her work. Outside temp was about 26 degrees. In March 2011 after loading up the X5 to go to Prague, the new battery died. Outside temp was around 43 degrees. When I brought it back to the dealer they said it was the heating system near the fuel strainer that wasn't shutting off. Although this past winter was a bit cold here in Germany I am not so sure this was the issue. We'll see. I'm a bit frustrated with the ownership experience with our X5 with the two dead batteries and a few other issues in the last two years. However, my wife and I love to drive this SUV! Such a dysfunctional relationship with our vehicle. :-)

I made this comment to the Service guy this morning and he said it was quite comment for the enhanced battery drain warning to come up after 15 minutes of the doors being open. bleh.

In my case with an '08 550i, it was a bad alternator that couldn't keep the batttery charged. Symptoms got worse and worse, ending with everything reset each morning, the last few days before the service appointment.

My dealer told me when detailing (wash/waxing the car), to not leave the door(s) open, and to vacuum the car as quickly as possible...since leaving the doors open will cause the battery to drain & result in an error/warning message. Insane!!!! ![]() |

Surely what some moron Client Advisor makes up based on his high school education should not be construed to be "BMW" advice. Once you hear this from PUMA, or from a BMW regional rep, then yes, you can get angry. Finally, I agree that BMW takes some blame for their failure to manage dealers and allowing dealers to be idiots. |

^^ It happens on my '09. I can't leave the door open for 15 minutes without getting an increased battery discharge message.

I have a 2008 3.0d. On its first year the computer prompted unusual battery drain a couple times and I took it to the dealer and they ran through overnight current monitor plan and find all it was false alarm and upgrade the software and problem went away. However my first batter did failed on me completely by last Christmas.
I subsequently upgraded my batter to a 110 amp hour battery from Johnson Control and now I go on business trip over two weeks and felt no difference in cranking power after my trip. |

I think Deutsch 100 needs to look for a New Dealer. This energy test is well documented through SIB's for many years, and when he first reported it they should have run the procedure required. If Deutsch checked the boards for the X5 's, and 5 series which has essentially the same electrical hardware, he would have seen many people that had this issue and in most cases, but not all, the problem was solved. As I mentioned in a previous post I had this problem in my 550 and the problem was fixed. I have a 2010 X5d and leave it for weeks at a time with no issues. He also has a continuing problem with the driver seat. Sounds like dealer incompetence to me.
