If you're at all concerned about the long term health of your X, get the oil analyzed for fuel dilution. Yes, it is somewhat unlikely, but others on this forum have had catastrophic engine failure from malfunctioning injectors. Yours will not likely be CEF, but a progressive loss of oil viscosity causing accelerated wear. Remember, the DDE is only aware of electrical malfunctions in the injectors. Any leakage at the pintle-injector nozzle area will not be discovered by "scanning the computer".

Something else to note is that aside from the accelerated wear, if the oil level gets high enough, your engine may "run away" and rev itself to death since it will be consuming your engine oil not fuel. Although this would likely happen at a lot more than 3mm past the max oil level--like 10-15mm or more.

Btw, any idea as to how much biodiesel is in your fuel? The limit in the states is B7 for the X5. There is some evidence that higher concentrations of biodiesel may not burn completely and may accumulate in the engine oil.

It would be interesting to see what data they used to come-up with that probability estimate....

But I note that in a later post of yours you say they have revised the estimate from "one-in-a-million" to "impossible." Must of gotten some new data....

Took my car back after repair of "engine oil too high" problem, found out that the dealer just drain out the engine oil to lower the iDrive monitor from yellow "full" to the level of green "Maximum". Now my engine oil level in the dipstick is shown next to "Minimum". So piss off to this cowboy method of repair, called the service advisor, he said this is normal, the car need 48 hours to adjust the oil level back to normal, blah blah blah, can you believe & accept this explanation ? What a joke! Will bring the car back tomorrow to talk to the service manager, but wouldn't expect much help other than hope for the best.
What a great and "professional" BMW dealer in Perth!

Totally unprofessional on their part. I agree, contact BMW of Australia and complain. In the meantime, get your oil sampled for fuel contamination. GL

Took my car back from dealer for 2nd attempt to sort out the engine oil level issue, the service manager told me everything is good now. I check the dipstick level today, found out that the oil still at about 40% to Maximum level, the iDrive monitor show about 75% to Maximum. a bit improve compare to before.
However, my dipstick oil level is a bit confusing, the oil line was not perpenticular to the stick but on one side is 40% (low) and the other side is at 70% (high) to Maximum. I assume the low line should be the correct mark.
Can any diesel owner verify your dipstick and iDrive oil level for me to compare ? Thanks in advance.
I so sick to go back to the "proffesional" dealer.

Did you do this in the service drive and demand the manager look at it and explain it?!?!?

Words on work orders are easy to blow off...make him explain it with the evidence in front of his face.

Remember you need to get it up to operating temperature ~5-15 mile drive and shut it off on a level surface and wait like 10 minutes to read the correct oil level. The diesel engine holds alot of oil in its galleries so it takes awhile to all drain into the sump.

I guess I really don't understand the source of your frustration. Are you angry with the service manager because they can't adjust your oil level properly or that they have not diagnosed as to why it read high in the first place. If it was my vehicle, I would spend the $20 or so and sample the oil myself and have it tested at a lab for fuel contamination...but that's just me...

Finally I found the culprit of the problem, I would like to say sorry to the service manager who helps me to attend the issue for the 2nd time. He did a good job.
I just realise today that my Garage floor is perfect levelled on the front & rear of the car, but slightly slope on left & right. I measure the car chassis with bubble level ruler, jack my car right side for about 25mm to make a perfect level. Bingo! The dipstick read perfectly this time with perfect perpendicular reading of 90% full. I'm very happy that compare with the iDrive reading of 100%. I’m so surprise that the slightly slope of the left & right can cause such a bit difference of reading while slope of front & rear not. Hope this experience can help other in the future and don’t repeat my stupid mistake.
Now I only need to monitor for a while if the car is “making oil”, the dealer has drain all the oil and replace with new oil during the 1st attempt to the problem. Will take the sample in future if the “engine oil level too high problem” comes back. Thanks for all the advice & help given, sorry that create this false alarm and info.
