2012 SAV phantom TPMS and stability warning

New member hear and I just thought I'd throw out a few things I've notice in my wife's car.

We ordered a 2012 35i SAV pac blue and got it in very short order. We love the x5 so far. (had an x3 before)

I have had a few dash lights pop up and go away and just seeing if anyone else has seen them. At around 1000mi we were about 1hr into a trip and taking many on\ off ramps and then I get a abs\ stabiltrac type error message. I review the messages in vehicle info and it lead me to believe that there was something going on with the steering angle sensor. Complete 20 more minutes of the trip and cycle the key and the light went off and has not come back in the last 600 mi or so.

Just earlier this week were were coming to a normal stop and I get a tpms warning. I go to the vehicle info screen right away to see what tire is the offender and they are all green and the tpms warning just went away. My wife said she has had the same thing happen before. I just checked the tire pressure over the weekend and it was at nominal spec. I have not checked them again after the message yet but I am guessing they are still at nominal. BTW I hate that it does not give you the actual tire pressure in the display. The data is there they just choose not to display it.

I do not understand why BMW does not give the "actual" tire pressure (however accurate or inaccurate it is). Our 2011 Range Rover, G55 and GL550 all give the pressure reading for each tire. Our "old" A6 and 911 also provided each tire info. Even my loaded 2010 all new 750i did not have this & the 2010 M6 did not do it either. Cannot understand why BMW does not offer this!

A lot of error codes on the E70 just go away. The many, many, many I had on ALL 3 E70s I owned...almost never even recorded, so the dealer always told me that I no record or information about the code. As you see...using turning the car off, letting it sit will make them go away!

Funny, I've never had anomalous codes or lights on my BMWs... light on, code, read, fix, done.

I guess just luck or being technically competent.

So the tpms issue came back and this time the TPMS was totally inoperative. After a key cycle and a drive the stems woke back up and the light went away. It's not a technically savy issue. I repair domestic vehicles at the factory they are built in ( a lot of issues that people would never see in the field). I am not used to seeing bogus codes on production vehicles (especially ones that turn on MILs). I own 2 BMW (X5 M3) so I am not hating just a little disappointed in the gremlins. Tires are to proper pressure - the last symptom leads me to believe that the tpms receiver was to blame since I was not getting any "green" or "red" tires on the vehicle info screen. we'll see how it goes.

HEY...not fair ard. I gave the e70 THREE chances (a 2007, 2008 and 2011). I know a lot about these trucks, and sadly the E70 has some crazy (and what seems like) unfixable issues for BMW. I mean... 2012 models are STILL experiencing issues that launch edition 2007 models had. Sorry ard, but that's just insane!!!

I have no doubt you had issues. But to chime in about a car you down own, with strident complaints over not getting actual tire pressures... (did it take 3 cars to realize it didn't display tire pressures?

Then you claim in every one of your cars, it "almost never" recorded a fault. BS. They do not lemon cars without faults.

You had issues, they were inexcusable...but why are you still here? Thats actually rather sad.

Dude...just because I do not own an E70, does not mean I do not have a lot of knowledge and experience about the model. I've had at least 12+ new BMWs since 2004 (5 being X5s), and I am a very big fan of BMW and the company's rich heritage. Beacause I am on a "BMW vacation", does not mean I have to ban myself from the Forum, and rid myself of everything BMW.

What's sad to me, is that you are always such a dick to so many people on the forum. That's sad.

Well I took the X5 in. There were 6 or seven codes in it. The service advisor originally only told me about the tpm one but after some conversation he let me see all of them. Apparently the RR TPM sensor is the culprit for the TPM malfunction message and subsequent total loss of tpm status. They have to order the part in so we won't know for sure until next week. There were no ABS\ TCS codes but there were CAN bus codes. I know that the industry is moving towards having the steering wheel angle broadcast on the CAN bus at a very high freq. (5ms or so) So I assume that the X5 is using this technology. Knowing that there was a can bus issue this could have easily casued the ABS\ TCS lights.

Deutsche-- adding insightful information and help to other members is perfect. Just be sure to stay positive, as you know how crappy a feeling it is when other members give you "buyers regret" on a $60k + vehicle.

Ard-- As long as deutsche can follow that, i think we should be all set on letting him add knowledge
