I recently replaced my
Bridgestone runflats with Conti DWS (18" wheels). First off, much smoother and quieter ride. They are much more forgiving over bumps. Car is a bit "mushier" though, likely due to softer sidewall. The X seems to lose a little bit of that rigid sport ride that was evident with the runflats - at least with the 18s. But for me, it's worth the smoothness.
Here's where I'm having an issue and have questions. I cannot get my steering wheel to stop twitiching (left to right about 1/8 of an inch) at 65-70. Having BMWs before, I've had this happen when wheels are bent. I had no problems before installing the Contis and the wheels are not bent execept for one which I've marked and has been on the back for months. Again, the steering wheels was 100% smooth with the runflats.
I've had them rebalanced twice and the shake is still there. One thing to note- most of the wheels took on average 3-4 ounces of weight per side. I think this was more than was there with the old tires and seems like alot of weight to me.
Any thoughts/experiences/suggestions??
