Thanks for all the help motordavid! I think I'll end up going for non RFTs after all, it's a he'll of a lot of a saving in exchange for a bit of elbow grease if I get a flat. I'd be screwed with a blow out with both RFT and non RFT anyway due to no spare. If I end up getting a second hand set of alloys that happen to still have old tyres on then I'll probably practice on them as you suggested, it's a good idea!

Now I just need to work out which TPMs I need.

If you are interested I am selling my winter set up (car going on Thursday).
I have 4 OEM 19" m sport alloy wheels (BMW supplied) fitted with Vredestein Wintrac 4 extremes, 255/50/19 front and 285/45/19 back (OEM sizes on this wheel). The tyres have gone through the two bad winters we had and 1 trip to Austria so Have travelled aproximatley 4k in total. I quickly measured the tread this morning and the fronts have just over 7mm and the rears just under 8mm, so plenty left. The wheels are in excellent condition and from memory I think 1 wheel has a very very small scuff mark (2 - 3mm). There have been no punctures at all. No sensors were needed on my car as I beleive they run off of the ABS system.
If you are interested let me know. I am based 10 minutes from junc 27 of the M1.
The wheels new are around 2k (1,983 incl vat from alloy wheels direct) and the tyres new from camskill now cost 683 inc vat.
