NEED AUDIO HELP !! HIFI to LOGIC 7 ??

NEED AUDIO HELP !! HIFI to LOGIC 7 ??
just purchased an 2008 X5 4.8 for the wife ...not an M5 but pretty nice SUV !!
however we did not understand the AUIO OPTIONS And so we sort of got TOOK on that end of it ! sales guy said it was the premium sound assured us that it was the hight end stuff ......... WAS NOT ... I suspect he was just a moron and really didnt know ...MY BAD for not KNOWING MORE ..

So HOW to FIX THIS ??
hoping to just upgrade to LOGIC 7 stuff .. dont mind doing the work if it can be done ....... the car has sirius and the HIFI system ... but I think that is all also it has 2 subs under the front seats

I have already confirmed that the BRACKET for the amp I have and the LOGIC 7 AMP are in fact the same part number

I have the stage ONE BSW speakers on order but they are on BACK ORDER ... so while I WAIT .... may be weeks I can see what else I may do........

I assume there is wiring harness issues and possibly coding to do too .... after the install..

questions:
  1. are all logic 7 AMPS the same .. they look so on the outside will an amp from a 740i work ?
  2. is the HD radio part of the LOGIC 7 amp box ?
  3. is there an UPGRADE harness
  4. to have a EQ I need to have LOGIC 7 ?
  5. LOGIC 7 is similar to the DSP amp in my 2003 M5 ? fictionally
then there is the whole CCS vs CIS deal CAN you UPGRADE that too ......... we have the 8.8 " monitor ...
I did a search on this and came up empty handed so far

anyone done either of these 2 upgrades ...

The x5 doesn't have logic 7. It does have a premium audio system.

I dont know about the base system but the premium system the amp is connected to the head unit CCC over the MOST bus so uses digital audio. As are all the components ... TCU, HD radio, SAT, DVD changer.

2. No. Hd radio and amp are separate ecus

3 no. You would have to purchase an entire audio harness or make cables up yourself

4 premium sound does give you a equalizer setting but note it's not just about adding parts. The CCC would need to be recoded to support premium sound.

Yes I just did a upgrade from CCC to CIC. Search again.

okay I am confused !! I read your deal about the CCC to CIC really want to do that soon !!!

BUT the audio deal has me confused we have premium sound but no EQ and no speakers in the "D" pillars
the AMP is VERY SMALL ... not like what is shown on REAL OEM as the TOP HIFI
we have subs one under each seat I believe

seems like the CCC to CIC is a separate upgrade and easier to do ...

is the BIGGER 650W amp PNP at all ?? I mean to say will the harness plug in ... ? can you get a separate audio harness ?
I did a complete MKIV NAV upgrade in a NON NAV car to a e39 540 so I have done something similar. I got an upgrade harness from BMW ...

anything like this available ... ?

Audio harnesses are made to measure, not off the shelf. Your best bet is probably a non-BMW solution.
But you have already started down that route with the speakers you have ordered.
No D-pillar speakers and no EQ = no premium sound.
Basically this is a nightmare upgrade using BMW-only parts.
RealOEM diagrams should not be taken literally.

I guess I don't see the HUGE deal .... the amp is bolt in easy ... speakers as well ... the harness I see could be the bulk of the work but ...couldn't be any worse than putting in NAV in a non NAV car .. and that was a one day job if even that ...

the CODING is a wee bit of a stumbling block ... but ... I m sure SOMEONE can do that ... or with MY GT1 I could get that done maybe .....

am I missing something .... taking the car apart is some hassle but if that is the worst of it ... that not a nightmare .. to me ...

What...are..you..saying?

So...

If you are so interested and committed to upgrading the stereo (sound) then tear out the BMW crap and really put in a fine system.

IMO you will spend thousands on a system that is half what it should be...

Oh, my bet is the salesman knew he was lying.

Ya I think you are right he knew he was lying !
I dont know about thousands, unless the harness is thousands. the amp can be had for 2-500.00, speakers 500 or so.

Im not 20yrs old anymore so the stereo isn't the only thing I care about .. been there done all the upgrades. I don't mind the OEM install. like the fact it all works as a package.

the BSW speakers and added watts and channels are probably enough for me .

being invisible is probably more important than the last 5% of sound quality ...

I have never ordered a replacement audio loom but I imagine that you do so by using your VIN number. So if you used yours you would have an exact replica of what you already have.
If you were feeling lucky you could find another car of the same vintage that has the right specification (whatever that might mean), take the VIN number and order against that. But if it wasn't right for you or didn't work I don't imagine BMW would be too helpful.
And then you will need a working MOST bus in your left-hand trunk area (and something to control it) as well, since the standard Hi-Fi amplifier uses K-Can.
As has already suggested, it would be a lot easier to use non-BMW components, especially as you don't have MOST now, so don't have to worry about it.
There is a very useful training document published by BMW in 10/06 called "E70 Audio Systems" that described the differences between Hi-Fi (standard audio) and Top Hi-Fi (Premium Audio). You should search for it.
