Unhappy New Navigation DVD does not work and brakes bluetooth and navigation?!

Hi guys -

I have followed this forum when it was still called X5 World ... it is just awesome!

After selling my 2002 X5 3.0i I recently bought a 2008 X5 4.8i ... just an awesome car ... and the sound of the V8

Since the car came with the original 2008 navigation DVD I ordered from the BMW site a new set of 2011 DVD (it's now a set of 2 DVD's).
They arrived yesterday and this morning I ejected the old one and plugged in the new one ... but ... the system was only saying "please insert a navigation DVD" ... tried the other one (which is for the east) yielded the same result "please insert a navigation DVD" ...

Oh well, drove to the friendly BMW dealer and they assured me that I had ordered the right set. They were not sure if I need a software update since the provider of the map material changed ... Will be back tomorrow at the dealer to get more details ...

Do you have any idea about this?

Well, the story continues ... left the dealer and drove into the city for lunch and I noticed that my iPhone was no longer available thru bluetooth ... fumbled around with the setting in iDrive and iPhone with no improvement ... still the iPhone was not found although it was still paired ... I tried to delete it in the BMW, but did not work ... Tried to paired it newly, but also unsuccessful

Got to my lunch place, had a great lunch and then returned to my car ... drove off and wanted to program home ... and ... ... now the old 2008 DVD was no longer recognized ...

So, long story short:
Can a new navigation DVD brake bluetooth and navigation? Any experiences - anybody?

Yes, that the part number on the disc set ... However, DVD CCC is not mentioned on the cover, but on the order ...

Have been this morning at the dealer in Mountain View w/o an appointment ... They left me waiting for 45 min just to tell me in two minutes that they think it could be a programming issue and they will need 46h (?!) to reprogram ...

I do not know if I am impressed with their service ...

Previously, I was a customer of BMW Concord where the service experience was top notch! ... but then I was living in the Easy Bay, and not like now in the South Bay ...

Now I have an appointment on Wednesday at 8:00 am and can pick it up again on Friday ... well we will see ...

You don't mention in your original post if the original 2008 nav disk still works.

If it does then yes programming is the next step. If that doesn't work either then replace the ccc module.

As for the bluetooth. Delete the BMW from your phone before you delete the phone from the BMW and then pair again

Also trying turning bluetooth off and then back on again in I drive.

Do any of the BMW assist or teleservice features work ?

Btw programming does take a long time. You cant just program one module. For the cars software to be updated many modules may be programmed based on many factors. Transfer rates are slow with appropriate check sums applied. The system was built to be reliable rather than fast.

Fortunately the cars software doesn't need to be updated regularly. For BMW they would prefer its never updated.

I'm curious as I have a 2007-08 DVD for my nav. I've been wanting to order the updated disks, but does this really require a reprogram to work? My original warranty expires in November, so I need to get anything like this done before that as I don't believe it's covered as part of the cpo

No. The op has some issues with the Ccc.

I have a 2008 X5 4.8i with the CCC I-Drive with the 2008 Navigation DVD and I got a set of 2011 disks but when I put in the West Coast disk, I got the same message as the OP, "please insert a navigation DVD." The East Coast works fine. Also the original 2008 still worked. I took it to the dealer and they determined that they need to replace the Navigation DVD drive and now the West Coast works along with the East Coast and the original 2008 disk.
I would just ask the dealer to try a software update and if that does not work, try replacing the DVD module (the Navigation module, not the optical disk module). It took the dealer like 1:30 hours to diagnose that there was a problem with the drive and reprogramming would not work.
Let me know it goes.

Sounds like a programming issue. The version of ISTA/P in the car is out of date and is not working nicely in conjunction with the data on the DVD.

You can program individual modules, it just depends on the tools that are used. The dealer usually can not because they use an ISTA machine or SSS which walks them through test plans, etc - and it will force them to update multiple modules. However, if you use an autologic tool, or the factory tools which I have, you can program them on an individual basis.

The CCC unit will take a long time to program unless its flashed through the MOST BUS fiber optic connection. Pushing 500MB through OBDII takes a long time, and thats roughly the size of the CCC (CAAPL) program data.

It's possible that a quick recode using ISTA v43 daten files could solve the problem. Good luck getting it fixed. I put in the 2011 disks in my 2008 M3 and it loaded them no problem. It just said to turn the car off for five minutes and come back.

Thanks for the quick reply apw. Very appreciated.

Anyone happen to have any clue on when the 2012 DVDs will be released? If I'm going to spend a couple hundred dollars, I might as well get the latest if the new one is going to ship in a month or so.
