Using IPod and BMW Apps

If I had an IPod touch and connect it wirelessly by tethering to my mobile phone
(so the IPod could connect to the internet), could I use the BMW Apps (Pandora, Facebook, )?
If I can, will I have to connect the IPod via the USB or Snap in adapter to the car ?

Has anybody tried this ?

Current 2012 3.5i Sport X5 Vermillion Red (Convenience, Cold Weather, Technology Pkgs, Active Steering, Adaptive Drive, Muti-Contour Seats, Premiun Hi-Fi), Harwire V1, BMW Personalization Coded)

Retired 2003 4.4i X5 Sienna Red (Sport, Cold Weather, Rear Climate, Premium, Towing Pkgs, PDC, Navigation, Rear Entertainment, Premium Sound, Hardwired V1)

I think it should work fine, I don't have an iPod touch but when I'm in the driveway, my iPhone uses the wifi from my house and still interfaces with the car just fine which is basically the same situation as you have
