2011 X5: Fake lamps?
So, each headlight has a pair of lamps, at least that's what it appears. I expected hi-beam to be using the lamps closer to the kidneys, but to my surprise, those never turn on. Are they real lamps? They sure look real, but never work. Even if those are fake placeholders, I still prefer the look with 2 lamps per headlight. Just wondering... |

Had a loaner last weekend, and noticed what you are describing. I think on the newer models the day time running lamps operate seperate from the halos, there is a lamp in there but it was not on, but the halos were still on. On the older models the daytime running lamps have to be on in order to light up the halos, because it usese the same lamp to light up the halos and the daytimes.

Interesting. On my 2010 the halogen bulbs were used to light the corona's. On my 2011 there are no halogen bulbs. The corona's are the DRL's.

Are you referring to the inner lights that only light up when turning or backing up?
If so, they are there to help illuminate the side of the road when you are making a corner. |
