4.8i oil change question

Doing an oil change on my 07 4.8i. The filter canister is under the car on the 4.8i. I will put the truck on my ramps. My question is: should I fill the canister with oil with the new filter installed and how does one do this since it is under the car? Is there a "trick"? Trying to prevent oil starvation on start up. This is easy when the canister is topside you can just fill the canister , but underneath is more difficult. Also, I will be evacuating the oil through the dipstick with my extractor. Should I drain the filter canister before I suck the oil out or after?
