PARK BRAKE MALFUNCTION
My park brake malfunction light came on after I swapped my tires (summer to winter on rims) yesterday. It was ok after the job was done and drove about 20 km then parked for 30 minutes. Get into the car after shopping and noticed the yellow PARK light stays on before starting the vehicle. Manually unlocked the park brake and drove home. I called the SA at local dealer and was told that was triggered by the tires swap ( 1st time in 3 seasons on my '08 X5). Is that true?

I dunno, but for the life of me I cannot come up with a scenario in which different tires cause a parking brake malfunction.
I assume you mentioned this to the SA....(why?) Warranty? |

I have asked the same question too.Will know on the 16th if it is covered by the warranty.

If you have a warranty, then your position MUST be this IS a warranty claim- and the nanosecond the SA makes any noise about it being due to tires, reach over the desk and twist his pinhead from his body... OK, maybe not that, but do not let him get away with taking the car if there is ANY question it is warranty. Demand that he provide you a written rationale as to how this caused the failure- demand that the service manager or the technician explain this. And not just "bmw says" but an understandable rationale that they put IN WRITING. (I'd not have told them you changed tires- it is like people getting a CEL light after they filled the tank, and assuming it must be 'bad gas'...you've given him some 'ammo') Parking brakes malfunction, it isnt the tires. I've had the parking brake malfunction at least 4 times in the year I've owned the X535d. There may have been another time, I can't recall.
The last one happened right before a dealer service for the brake pads, so I asked them to check it out. They found codes, but the initial response from the computer was "codes cleared, release vehicle." My SA said "4 to 5 times in a year is bogus", and that he has seen it happen more often than it should on other vehicles. So he kept working it until the system gave him the approval to replace the "actuator with control unit". Part number 34-43-6-796-072. Seems to be working fine now. Nice to have an SA who is on my side.....

a wiring harness issue at the body side of the EMF connector becomes burnt, as a result, a fault for the parking brake malfunction will occur. repairing the wiring harness will correct this concern. on 2007-08 MY X5

can you be more specific on the exact location of the connector? Thanks

No, there is absolutely no possible way i can be any more specific. If you do not know where the EMF control module is located, maybe this is the question you should be asking? Because if you knew where it was located, you would be able to find the connector without asking your question.
