X5 Side Molding - how attached?
Anyone know how the side molding on the lower part of the doors is attached? Is it glued or held with bolts?
Thanks.

Thinking about replacing them with a painted version?

"Thinking about replacing them with a painted version?"
No. Just painting them body color. I have the prep material & paint & love how the "M" version looks. I may just paint in place. Heading to big box stores today to look for thin plastic "putty knife" to lift edge enough to get masking tape under edge. If that works, I'll try same on black plastic lower-body cladding too. Would be easier than removing & replacing. Just not as good. If you are wondering if the paint will stick - I've done this before with a VW Jetta & with an '80 MGB (see: CT MG CLUB PHOTOS ) With correct preparation, it sticks as well as factory paint.

To remove the side emblems use dental floss and run it under the plastic. You can also use a hot hair dryer to help loosen it.

Is it just glue. Are there any holes underneath. I am trying to go for the look without them.

No holes. However the moldings are not just over the doors. The moldings fit into a little ridge. Without the moldings you will be able to tell something is missing.
