killcrap, I don't have a more current one available. That is partly why I asked you to clarify. The other reason was to understand your reference to an annual oil change. Has BMW reinstituted an annual oil change in the US? Are you able to post the updated bulletin? If not, can you comment on any substantive changes to this bulletin?

Thanks

Jeff

i cannot post this updated bulletin.

annual oil change is due 366 days from inservice date. last oil service, or last annual service, no milage stipulations. if vehicle is within 30 days or 336 days of last service, the service may be performed to improve customer satisfaction to avoid another visit in 30days. if vehicle is 2000 miles to the next service for SIA vehicles, the service may be performed instead of the annual service.

Thanks, appreciate that.

It appears that in the US, BMW has folded to customer pressure for an annual oil change irrespective of the service reminder lights. Interesting.

My service light turns on every year on the same calander day. It is time/date based and not mileage or fault based.

My SA says all he needs is the light to turn on and they will service oil, filter and I believe DEF top off.

We are talking gas engine, not diesel.

Diesel is one year.

OP does not have a diesel.

Interestingly, BMW has NEVER COMMUNICATED THIS TO THE OWNERS.

killcrap- how do owners know they are required to come in for the annual change? CBS still displays a 24 month interval.

You said it was the OPs fault...so how was the OP to know this was due? Manual? (nope) CBS? (nope)..telepathy?

Explain how a user can be at fault for a policy change BMW never published.

Try reading the owners manual about maintance guidelines. if it is not published in your native language, you may consider using a internet translation interface.

Oil Service: Engine oil should be changed
with the engine at operating temperature.
Note: Change oil at least once a year.

I didn't realize so many people had responded since I orginally posted this thread. I did confirm some facts that people have already mentioned.

CPO does not include the oil change. They will do one if it's overdue, but if the CBS limit hasn't been tripped, then they are not required to do one. If it's close they might still do one out of courtesy. At the time of purchase, I was led to believe that they do do an oil change as part of the CPO. This is a question I know I asked my sales guy.

I said that that the CBS had been reset. I now know I can't be certain if this is true or not. I believe the CBS interval was one year at first and then changed to two years. If it was still set to one year at the time of purchase, then I believe the reset was done without doing an oil change. If it was two years, then I believe everything was done properly. It's just hard to speculate since I purchased the car at the end of January and coincidentally the CBS date is in February.

I have been talking to the dealership over the last month. Will let you know how it turns out.
