Dealer gets my order wrong!!
NB - Car is 30D M sport UK model Checking my new car order I notice the dealer has ordered High Gloss shadowline roof rails instead of the Matt Aluminium :x I had emailed the dealer with my build day before order was placed and when went in the following day he then printed it of and checked it then I signed the new car order. So was checking it today as I had nowt else to do & noticed the mistake. Telephoned the Sales Mgr who after checking confirmed the error, & admits mistake is there's. He said they will replace shadowline with Matt aluminium, he says they just clip onto a roof rail template. However I'm not so sure, I think they bolt on through roof metal & roof lining will need taken down to access bolts etc, which I am definatley not happy with :x :x If its just a clip on issue to a template (template thats bolted to roof)fair enough, but if the whole roof rail is fixed by bolts I am not happy spending £54k to have roof linings removed........... I have called a couple different BMW part dept and have got conflicting details, some say the roof rails are @£200 a side with 3 bolts each, another said it looks like they clip on and are @£80each with 6 or so clips each :? What do you guys think? Does anyone have pdf of replacement instructions / diagram? Aghhhh, where's my bottle of whisky..... |

This is only half the answer.
If you have the rails, there are 6 clips, secured by 6 bolts (through bolted). Part number 7 in the diagram. Note that there are more than one style of rail, apart from the finish on the rail. If you don't have the rails, there is a trim piece, which appears to be secured by 12 clips. Part number 6 in the diagram. That trim piece may be there even with the rails. What isn't clear is whether the rail can be detached from the clip from outside, or only once it is unbolted. Picture attached, and realoem parts book link. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ZW42&mospid=52201&btnr=51_6375& hg=51&fg=20 I wouldn't worry too much about them changing the rails over even if they did have to drop the headliner. Just carefully inspect the work after it is done. Good luck. Jeff

Thanks JCL, much appreciated.
its the type 2 (flush mounted) roof rail. they will need to remove the black one and replace with silver (aluminimum) one. If it can all be done externally then it should be ok. Just not keen if they have to destruct item (ie break open roof lining, glued items etc) to access roof rail holding / bolts. cheers |

Went into dealers this morning, after speaking with Master Technician its clear whole roof lining will need taken down, as only partial pulling it to side risks creasing the lining. The roof rail definately bolts through metal roof with 3 on each side.
:headbang: However tech said that as my car has pano roof its easier as the lining has a front & rear pin to relocate it exactly correct (non SR lining does not and its harder to refix). They have assured me that no distructive removal of any parts (ie seals, glued items etc) needs done and the Master Tech will fit & have offered to allow me access to view work in progress & finish, so its put my mind at ease bit. |

PICS ADDED
UPDATE
Car delivered from Thorne VPC this morning. Had a look and did not think it looks too bad in black shadowline, so after a bit of negotiation decided to accept it as dealers conceded to adding a few additional freebies. Here are some pics, car has still to be fully prep of course, pick up date end next week. Last edited by 5wany; 12-09-2011 at 04:20 PM. |

Quote:
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...t-uk-spec.html ard, the M sport in the UK comes from factory (or poss fitted at VPC) with 3M clear film over bottom rear doors and arch (flares). Salesman told me BMW have recently started doing this due to number of repaints under warranty due to stonechips, though 19" wheels tend to throw up less than 20"s (one of reasons i went for 19"s) |

What is that camera in your front bumper?
Also I noticed your interior door handles are all leather, whereas mine is half wood trim.

Front tow eye, rear one not on car either, seems to be the way they are delivered in UK, both eyes in beside mats etc in boot (tailgate)
