Nav update failure
Should say .. I tried putting the 07 disk back in, but the screen stays blank .. I have the TV option which works ok, just no display, and I have a shortcut button to the Nav system that says the navigation system is ready ? |

Anytime I upgraded the NAV dvd version, it was a restart of the whole idrive which I accomplished by powering off the engine/computer completely. If I recall, it needed a few additional minutes too. I've never done the "soft" reset you describe to upgrade NAV (because of the additional minutes needed) though I've done it for other reasons. I've never seen a blank white screen like you describe.

There is a BMW Navigation forum here...post there. Nav upgrades are rare here given the newness of the E70.
On older navs I've had to wait for the drive to completely power down- like let it sit for 20 minutes with the car open, trunk open...the turn the key on simultaneously with trying to get the nav to work. (In that case it was eject).. You might also reach out and beg for help from one of the vendors that sell upgrades for nav- Patrys comes to mind. Check out the forum. Also there is a E90 owners forum with a lot more Nav related content.... Update this if you get it worked out A\ PS Sorry to hear- the whole Nav update thing is near and dear to my heart and I hate hearing that the BMW system is failing folks.... |

Ok guess I'm on my own on this one .. well I phoned my stealer and he said it would be £75 pounds just to look at it ? .. I mean I stuck a correct BMW DVD into my nav .. it locks up and I'm gonna have to pay just to get them to look at it ? Not to mention the time to take the car over to them and leave it there .. sheesh

Now I'm advised its a ccc failure , what does this mean and how can it come a bout from putting a dvd into the nav unit ?

CCC stands for car communication computer and is essentially the electronics behind the two optical disk slots in the center dash area.
Sounds like your rather unlucky. If I was you I would source a used CCC on eBay (loads of them) and then speak to one of the vendors on the forum offering coding services. You may run into some issues with the FSC enabling codes ... They unfortunately exist for the older CCC too .. So speak with a vendor about that ... Bimmertech for example. Sadly BMW will screw you over if you had to buy a new CCC from them. |

As I already told you, you really should talk to Patrys or others that are selling upgrades...for less than BMW will screw you, you can upgrade to a CIC...or at least get the CCCfor much less

Well I cant say I'm impressed .. The cars only done 20000 miles .. I put in a new updated nav disk and the screen goes blank permantly.
The stealer tells me its the CCC first and want £975 to fix it..I suggested he phoned BMW to see if they would help out because of the mileage, and it had left me quite dissapointed at such a premature failure. (car is four years old) Meanwhile I had researched that it could be a failed screen. So I found a screen on Ebay for £80 and it suggested fitting was a 5 minute job ? Stealer phones me back and says BMW will pay 70% of the part ... result ! ... and all I would have to pay was the labour .. so the job was now £440 total, "Did I want them to go ahead ?" the girl asks .. yes I said.. ofcourse .. Then I said .. leave the old unit on the seat for me incase I could do something with it .. no problem she says .... then she phones me back saying I would have to pay a £150 surcharge for them to do that ?????? She says they send em back to BMW incase they can re use any of the parts ? .. so I asked was it a new part they were fitting ? .. to which she replied yes and it would have a 2 year warranty on it So I just said ok you keep it then and just do the work 3 days later I phoned to see if it was ready .. no ... Finally I picked it up today, and the final bill was £288.00 ? Well all my settings in the nav and elsewhere were untouched and the Job card says all they replaced was the screen .. So I'm glad its fixed and everything is back to normal, and it didnt cost me as much .. but I still feel a bit stung that they didnt tell me what it was before fixing it, and obviously CCC failures are fairly common .. so who knows what is going to happen next ? .. for all I know they just dis connected it, did some hard reset, and it all works again .. How do I find out my sofware version ? or does it go by the nav disk, to see if I'm up to date ? Last edited by Muz; 12-13-2011 at 03:39 PM. |

We probably could have helped you save money on this ... I certainly could have walked you through the steps to replace the screen.
Oh well ... Fixed now. |
