Do you have comfort access? If you did, it usually tells me when the battery is starting to get low. If you don't, I know it charges the fob while in the ignition - perhaps it's telling you the recharge cycle is beginning to fail? Just a guess.

No comfort access and both fobs give me the same warning light.

"High drain" issue? Anyway to check your battery status?

if you still have the original battery, it maybe time to replace.

In all seriousness, agree with this last possibility. Here is a practical consideration: if you are out of warranty, you take this in to BMW and they can bend you over for a few hours of diagnostics....You could be $300 when they say "bad battery, our MSRP is $400 and 30 minutes to install" Sometimes it is cheaper to just replace the battery (with a compatible NON-BMW one) and then see if that did it. Just a thought. A PS Anything unusual about your use? short commutes? sitting open? |

Hmmmm- my original ('07 4.8) battery just died 3 days ago. I never saw a warning light, but could've missed it if it's only on a few sec. at start up.
I'd highly recommend replacing the bat. if it's original. When it died, I couldn't open the back hatch to get to it with out first getting a jump start. Even after the jump start and running it wouldn't go in to gear to be able to drive- I guess not enough voltage to engage the electronic shifter- just got error messages. Save your self some aggrivation and replace it now rather than getting stuck some where. It's only a matter of time.

As per an older thread, my SA says these car batteries are *supposed* to last 7 years but of course it depends on recharge cycles and climate.
Also, for the "just replace it" people - doesn't it require a "reprogram" after you do it? That's not a do-it-yourself... wishful thinking. What have you people done to get past this if not just shelling out the cash to BMW?

I removed my battery the day it died, and couldn't get a replacement for over 24 hours. After installing it and starting the car there were several error messages on the display. As soon as I put it in gear they went away. Only thing I had to do was reset the clock. Drove it home 450 miles later that day- no issues.

When I replaced the battery in my 01 X5 it didn't resolve the dead battery issue. Turmed out to be a final stage resistor problem. Hope that's not the case here. You would think BMW resolved that problem in the E70 series. I think I will replace the battery though, just to be safe.
